JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Privately-owned mining contractor Piacentini & Son has been awarded the mining contract for the Mt Cattlin spodumene project, near Ravensthorpe in Western Australia, where mining is set to start in early December.
Piacentini will provide an Hitachi 1900 excavator, Caterpillar 777D dump trucks, Cat D9 dozer and other ancilliary equipment, as well as plant operators and maintenance staff.
A subcontractor, Dynamic Drill & Blast, will handle the drill and blast component of the mining contract.
Galaxy last week started ore processing at Mt Cattlin. About 230 000 t of blasted and crushed ore will be processed through the plant in the coming weeks until mining starts.
