JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Northam Platinum on Tuesday called on employees at the Zondereinde mine to return to work now that calm had been restored.
The company on Monday temporarily suspended operations at the mine following incidents of violence.
This had followed the death of an employee in the town of Northam on Sunday.
Another employee had been killed near the mine on Monday.
Northam CE Paul Dunne called on all parties to act responsibly, saying, “We urge all parties to exercise leadership following these tragic incidents, in the interests of safety for all.”
Mine management would assist the authorities in their investigations into the deaths of the two employees where required.
