International water pump technology company Xylem Water Solutions attended and participated in the annual World Water Week event, which took place in Stockholm, Sweden, from August 27 to September 1, where the company co-convened several forums and workshops to showcase its dedication in developing innovative technology solutions to the world’s water challenges.
On August 27, the company co-convened a forum titled Data Drought: An Assessment of Global Hydrological Monitoring Systems. The forum, which discussed and assessed the severe decline in critical global water monitoring infrastructure, explored the challenges and solutions to upscaling this infrastructure, as well as the implications of nonaction, and defined steps for collaboration, was led by Xylem strategy and business development VP Albert Cho.
Xylem also co-convened a workshop on August 29, titled Powering the Wastewater Renaissance: Emissions Reduction in Wastewater Management, with the European Water Association and IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute. Xylem’s recent research shows that smart technology investments in the wastewater sector can cut the global sector’s electricity-related greenhouse gas emissions by 50%, saving nearly $40-billion.
Cho participated in another workshop, 21st Century Technology: Bridging the Gap to Wastewater Reuse, which discussed the economic and environmental benefits of water reuse, and how readily available technologies can drive effective, financially successful reuse programmes.
In addition, the company is the founding sponsor of the Stockholm Water Prize, as well as the founding global sponsor of the Stockholm Junior Water Prize.
Themes at this years’ World Water Week involved focusing on a challenge for which two Sustainable Development Goals have set ambitious targets: by 2030, water quality must be improved by reducing pollution, eliminating dumping and minimising the release of hazardous chemicals and materials, increasing recycling and safe reuse globally. In addition, by 2030, waste generation must be substantially reduced, through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse.
Xylem’s water solution products include an extensive pumps range. Submersible pumps applications range from small drainage jobs to large dewatering projects. End suction pumps, multistage pumps, self-priming pumps, horizontal axial-flow pumps, double suction or split case pumps, in-line pumps and wet rotor circulators are some of the pumps available through Xylem.
