Swedish premium automobile manufacturer Volvo will be shaking up the premium sedan segment with the new S90, an executive class sedan, which was launched last month at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, in the US.
The luxury sedan, which has made its first public appearance, will now provide stiff competition for luxury German competitors in the segment.
Volvo Car Group senior design VP Thomas Ingenlath believes that the S90 is a complete Scandinavian design package, which mixes new technology with natural materials.
The sedan, which will be powered by a T8 twin engine plug-in hybrid emitting 298 kW of power, is designed to pay homage to the classic 1960’s Volvo P1800 with a similar concave grille.
Volvo renowned safety features have also been accentuated in the S90 with IntelliSafe Assist system, which comes as standard and is another step to fully autonomous driving.
Volvo senior research and design VP Dr Peter Mertens notes that the S90 will provide an enhanced driving experience.
According to Volvo Car South Africa, the South African launch for the S90 has been earmarked for the fourth quarter of this year.
