Mobile network operator Vodacom and connectivity and telecommunications infrastructure company Maziv have decided to lodge a notice of appeal with the Competition Appeal Court after the Competition Tribunal in October prohibited Vodacom's proposed acquisition of a 30% stake in Maziv.
Maziv will house all of the fibre assets owned by private equity firm Community Investment Ventures, including Vumatel and Dark Fibre Africa.
The tribunal has not yet provided the parties with detailed reasons for prohibiting the transaction and the notice of appeal will be supplemented upon receipt of the reasons for the prohibition, the companies said.
Further, shareholders are advised that the transaction parties remain in discussions about the transaction terms.
