Canadian miner New Gold has resumed underground mining activities at its New Afton mine, in Kamloops, British Columbia.
This follows confirmation of the structural integrity of its New Afton tailings storage facility.
During an inspection on August 9, visual geotechnical variances were observed that required further review by the engineer of record (EOR). Following a review, the EOR confirmed the structural integrity and that the behaviour was normal and expected.
On August 10, New Afton resumed underground mining activities on site. Milling operations were unaffected during this period and in-pit tailings deposition continued as planned.
New Gold said the mine remained well positioned to meet all its production and cost guidance metrics.
