Mining training solutions provider Prisma ensures that it takes a “deeper look” into the safety aspects of its training for individuals operating machines on site or those who are part of a blasting crew.
“As a training provider, we focus on the safety element to ensure that, once learners are qualified, they can safely avoid accidents and near misses. This will not only enable them to return home safely to their families but it also reduces the cost of property damage for the company,” says Prisma MD Jacques Farmer.
Prisma introduces training on all safety aspects to different countries to enhance safety awareness on mines and, with the variety of courses on offer, the company can tailor the training material to specific requirements for sections on the mine.
Consequently, this provides employees with specific skills and knowledge to perform their duties in a manner that is suited to the location of the mine site, be it an underground or surface mine, and the work area of the specific mine.
“While Prisma primarily focuses on training for underground and opencast mining, we also provide metallurgy training. On the mine, it is easy to focus on production and forget to develop the plant aspect of mining,” Farmer explains.
He adds that developing the plant area has a “great effect “on the final product delivered from mine to client. If the processing of a product increases, the value of profits at the mine can be enhanced.
“Most African countries neither develop the plant and processing sector nor do they train the workers on that specific element of the mine. Prisma can provide plant training, and enhance the productivity of the workers in the minerals section.”
To maintain safety during the Covid-19 pandemic, Prisma adapted its training solutions by integrating and including virtual training routines.
The company has also been considering a distance learning approach for the purpose of assessments.
