SPONSORED POST: Industrial Acid Proofing recently announced that it has obtained the sole rights and agency for the Supertank technology, providing the electrowinning industry with an alternative polymeric cell product that also offers an increased lifespan. The tanks are designed to maintain full operating availability throughout a plant’s lifespan, maximising production of high purity metals.
The structural core is made up of hyper-bonded polymer concrete, achieving a low co-efficient of thermal expansion and providing long-term structural integrity with low thermally-induced stresses. The external surface is a seal layer of fibre-reinforced polymer that protects the structural core from electrolyte splashes and spills.
The Supertank design further eliminates all corners and sharp edges, replacing them with smooth curves and gradual transitions in the wall thickness, thereby mitigating stress concentrations and reducing material usage and weight by 12% to 15%, while still maintaining the cell’s holding capacity.
The design is also thermally insulated, with capping board and electrolyte agitation systems that can be incorporated into the cells, enhancing overall safety, cathode quality and productivity.
IAP supplies all internal equipment associated with the cells, such as busbars and anodes and is also the sole agent for Steuler products and other acid-proofing materials such as acid bricks, mortars and refractory materials.
