The need to incorporate environment-preservation techniques on site has become an ongoing and critical action point for the global mining and industrial sectors.
A slurry removal solution that aims to ensure that mine and industrial water contaminated sites do not negatively affect surrounding areas, is now available.
Integrated Pump Rentals’ SlurrySucker dredging system aims to effectively clean process water ponds, return water dams and other water storage areas. It is seen as particularly suited for cleaning water capture areas where silt or slimes are prevalent or where water-retention and water-holding capacity is threatened. As these areas may be environmentally sensitive, the system aims to ensure protection against pollution.
Additional potential benefits of the solution include increased water storage, the recovery of minerals and improved processing water quality. The product range also aims to extend the life of water-dedicated assets by protecting dam plastic liners.
The system is sized to meet slurry removal requirements in terms of particle size, aggregation, distribution, cohesiveness, flow characteristics, sedimentation rates and specific gravity (SG). Typical suction water agitation dredging usually achieves 20% to 30% solids for SGs up to 3.0.
Two product options are available:
- The Maxi SlurrySucker which is capable of moving 250 m³ an hour at 20% to 30% by volume, equivalent to about 70 dry tons an hour.
- The Mini SlurrySucker operates at 100 m³ an hour, at 20% to 30% by volume for about 30 dry tons an hour.
The system is designed for various site conditions and applications including:
- Mining - process ponds, pits, tailings storage
- Energy – power stations, oil refineries
- Industry - chemical storage ponds
- Storm water - sedimentation dams
The SlurrySucker incorporates Grindex slurry pumps and is designed with a galvanised frame structure, with an option for stainless steel with polyethylene and ultraviolet-stabilised pontoons.
