Trucks have been set alight by protesters along the N11, near Amajuba Pass in KwaZulu-Natal.
Six trucks were set alight when protests erupted along the N11 near Amajuba Pass in Charlestown, KwaZulu-Natal, on Monday.
Road Traffic Inspectorate spokesperson Sindi Msimang told News24 that while traffic was now flowing in the area, the public was advised to use alternative routes.
"There are spillages that have occurred due to the trucks being set alight. The road is difficult to travel on, but a stop-and-go has been initiated by our teams on the ground," she said.
She said the protests began late on Sunday evening and continued into the early hours of Monday morning.
"We do not have an idea why they are protesting. There are... clean-up teams in the area who are working to improve the condition of the road. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes," Msimang said.
No injuries have been reported yet.
