JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – A rock-drill operator has been killed in a fall-of-ground incident at Harmony Gold's Phakisa mine, near Welkom.
The incident happened on Monday afternoon.
Drilling and blasting operations at the mine have been halted while an investigation is under way.
"We are deeply saddened by another fall-of-ground accident. My condolences go to the family and friends of the deceased," said Harmony CEO Peter Steenkamp.
Harmony had also reported a fatality at its Kusasalethu mine on Monday.
