JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Diversified engineering and infrastructure company RCR Tomlinson has won a $120-million contract from Rio Tinto to deliver a primary crusher and overland conveyor system for the Silvergrass iron-ore mine, in Western Australia.
On August 2, Rio Tinto approved $338-million for the final phase of the Silvergrass mine. The investment will replace road haulage with a primary crusher and more efficient conveyor system linking Silvergrass to the existing processing plant at the adjacent Nammuldi mine.
RCR Tomlinson reported on Tuesday that its scope of work included the engineering, procurement and construction of the new primary crusher, 9 km of overland conveyor and associated 33 kV power line.
Construction would start on site in the fourth quarter of the year, when Rio Tinto should have gained the necessary government approvals.
