Pumps distributor Integrated Pump Technology (IPT) has introduced the Grindex Maxi H-Lite pump onto the African market to address the need for an intermediary pump capable of performing heavy-duty drainage applications, says IPT MD Colin Adams.
He notes that the Maxi H-Lite, a lightweight 25 kW dewatering pump, is slim and robust in design, and thus ideally suited for use in confined spaces. The pump, which is largely based on Grindex’s popular Maxi dewatering pump, will fill a gap in the product range, perfectly slotting in between the 18 kW Mata- dor and the 37 kW Maxi pump, Adams adds.
Prior to the introduction of the Maxi H-Lite, customers would use Matador or Maxi pumps and, although both are adequate for various site drainage applications, the Maxi is better suited to bigger operations, thus requiring and using more electricity. The Matador is suited to smaller applications and may require more maintenance if pushed to perform larger pumping duties.”
While Adams notes that this gap in the Grindex product range has always existed, he states that the inclusion of an intermediary pump is necessary because of the intermediary pump’s ability to reduce operational costs, owing to reduced maintenance and electri- city consumption.
He explains that the pump is fitted with a redesigned top cover and new- generation cable entry, ensuring that the junction chamber remains free of water ingress.
“The pump is available with an open impeller, in either stainless steel or wear-resistant Hard Iron, and retains the Matador’s adjustment sleeve to facilitate the readjustment of the impeller suction cover clearance, which sal- vages performance after wear and reduces life-cycle costs,” he mentions.
IPT, being the sole importer and distributor of Grindex pumps in Southern Africa, received its first units last month, following Grindex’s laun- ching the Maxi H-Lite internationally in January.
Adams says, while the Maxi H-Lite is ideal for mining applications, it is suitable for various drainage applications, specifically in the construction and industrial sectors.
“Grindex is a leading submersible pumps manufacturer and product quality is of utmost importance. Its commitment to quality ensures that its pumps are efficient, reliable and durable,” he adds.
He maintains that the renowned Grindex and IPT brands have allowed both companies to weather the storms caused by the commodities downturn and the volatile global economy.
“There will always be a market for a well designed, reliable product.”
Moreover, Adams notes that, despite recent economic challenges, there are still viable business opportunities in the African mining industry and, although sluggish, there are signs that the market is picking up.
“We’ve noticed an increase in enquiries about our products and service offering. Unlike last year, when the global mining industry was all but stagnant, there have been new, though isolated, developments in the sector,” he concludes.
