A wake frequency calculation is used to determine the required dimensions and suitability of a thermowell, which is the protective structure around a thermocouple probe or thermometer.
The wake has a specific frequency, which is a function of the diameter of the thermowell and the fluid velocity.
WIKA now provides the wake frequency calculation for thermometer thermowells in a Web-based version, in accordance with ASME PTC 19.3 TW-2016, instead of the previous Excel option.
The new programme is said to have adopted the proven and clear presentation of results from the previous Excel software.
Users can access the tool on the WIKA portal. There is an option of a freely accessible version, which allows the calculation for a single thermowell, or the full version, which requires registration and user verification, and allows for an unlimited number of thermowells to be calculated simultaneously.
To ensure data security, registration takes place by means of Azure Active Directory B2C. A portable document format, or PDF, function for documenting the calculation is included in both versions.
