PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Gold miner Millennium Minerals on Tuesday said that gold production at its Nullagine mine, in Western Australia, had remained unaffected by Cyclone Stan.
Cyclone Stan, which hit the Pilbara over the weekend, forced the closure of Port Hedland and the Port of Dampier.
Millennium told shareholders that the cyclone brought low-level winds and heavy rains to the Nullagine project, resulting in the processing plant shutting down for 14 hours as a precautionary safety measure.
The company added that while some mining areas experienced flooding, gold production from Nullagine would remain unaffected owing to existing high-grade and low-grade stockpiles, as well as the flexibility to move mining activities to other areas.
