PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Gold miner Northern Star Resources has struck a deal with fellow-listed Enerji at the Jundee gold mine, in Western Australia.
The power purchase agreement (PPA) would see Enerji supply and install a 1.5 MW heat-to-power plant at the Jundee mine, capturing waste heat and converting it into usable power.
The PPA would run for an initial five-year term, and the installation at Jundee would involve the deployment of Enerji’s advanced thermal energy node 4 plant, comprising a 750 kW wet steam turbine and a 750 kW Rankin cycle turbine.
Construction and site works were expected to start shortly.
Enerji CEO Andrew Vlahov noted that PPA with Northern Star was the company’s first commercial contract and its first deployment in the Australian market.
“Once installed, the system will not only provide significant cost savings to Northern Star, and will generate annual revenue for Enerji in a range of A$1.2-million to A$1.5-million based on expected usage, it will do so with zero emissions.”
Northern Star CEO Stuart Tonkin noted that the agreement with Enerji offered a cost-effective way to produce electricity through the recycling of waste heat.
“This aligns with Northern Star’s commitment to operate in our communities in an environmentally responsible manner. We are very pleased to partner with Enerji on this,” Tonkin added.
