Using new technologies enables industrial tank manufacturer Metal Tank Industries to construct storage vessels, steel walkways, platforms and gantries, pumps, pipelines, control panels, electrical cabling, load cells, cooling towers and boilers that are used at food and beverage production plants.
“Vertical tank building technology, tig welding, laser alignment and orbital pipe welding are all new technologies that we are using to increase the speed and quality of our products to various industries,” says Metal Tank Industries MD Rob MacGregor.
To ensure that it services clients efficiently, the company keeps stock at its Benoni premises. “Our stock usually consists of about 100 vessels of various sizes that can be used on projects for items such as cleaning in place (a method of cleaning inside pipes and vessels), weigh hoppers, buffer tanks and premix vessels to help reduce overall lead time,” he states.
The stock also includes a full range of hygienic piping, valves and fittings, as well as stainless steel pumps, mixers, heat exchangers and cooling towers.
MacGregor says the company is seeing positive growth in the various sectors for which it is constructing new plant and supplying its products. “We are confident that we can meet the growing demands throughout the continent and we are striving to be a supplier of choice with regard to turnkey process solutions.”
He adds that, on average, Metal Tank Industries’ turnaround time for the construction of new plants is 16 to 20 weeks, but it can take longer depending on the project size, with the time required to supply products depending on what is being supplied.
“If the same size of project was outsourced to various suppliers and not prebuilt by us, it could take a lot longer to complete the project because one company is not supplying and coordinating everything,” he highlights.
To further its aspirations of providing turnkey solutions, the company has added a new client reception facility to the already existing structure in Benoni.
MacGregor explains that the location, which is only a few kilometres away from OR Tambo International Airport, has worked well for the company as it has allowed the company to easily access supplies and provide support to clients that are in the Johannesburg area.
