SPONSORED POST (Virtual Showroom): Users having to choose the right level measuring instrument from a multitude of options is now history, says instrumentation engineer VEGA, as it releases its new VEGAPULS 6X radar level sensor on March 1.
The new VEGAPULS 6X offers a self-diagnosis system that can immediately detect damage or interference, thereby ensuring significantly higher availability and safety. It also has a new radar-chip technology, with expanded application possibilities and simpler operation.
In addition to its safety integrity level (SIL) certification, product manager Jürgen Skowaisa says that cybersecurity has also been taken into account, as the new radar complies with security standard Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) 62443-4-2, which specifies the strictest requirements for secure communication and access control.
However, product manager Florian Burgert says that, ultimately, “it’s not the sensor that counts, but what the users can achieve with it in their individual processes”.
Burgert was closely involved in the product’s development from the start and believes that customers will be able to “reach their goals faster” as the new measurement solution “makes a big difference” in everyday operations.
Another aspect of its extensive safety features is its self-diagnosis system, as it continuously monitors the function of the sensor and recognises if it has been impaired in any way, thus contributing significantly to higher plant availability and sensor performance.
Central to these important features is a new, second generation radar chip directly from VEGA. Because there was no chip available on the market that would have met all requirements, the research and development team set to work to design one themselves, from scratch.
“The result pretty much consolidates our entire radar experience of three decades," says Skowaisa, praising this achievement.
“In its scope and functionality, the chip is unique in the whole world,” he adds, noting that it is especially characterised by its low energy consumption, high sensitivity, scalable architecture and universal applicability.
The radar antenna system and the chip are connected directly to each other, without any cable, for maximum performance.
The ultimate purpose of VEGAPULS 6X is “maximum simplification” through using one sensor that can handle any application.
By using the new radar, VEGA enthuses that “the customer will no longer have to worry about the technology, frequency or instrument version”, adding that even setup and commissioning has been reduced to a minimum, as it will now only require a few clicks and basic application parameters.
An advisory discussion with a VEGA radar specialist is also an option, should users require some assistance.
In many cases, all application-specific settings can be made in VEGAPULS 6X before it leaves the factory. “Mount, connect, done: It couldn’t get any simpler,” the company enthuses.
