Chemicals manufacturer Synergy Blenders has officially opened a new liquid caustic soda manufacturing plant, in La Mercy, in KwaZulu-Natal.
The plant, which was built at a cost of about R120-million, is expected to give the provincial economy a much-needed boost.
“This is a ground-breaking development that will reignite the economy and rekindle the hopes of our people, while showcasing . . . determination in the face of a global pandemic, tough economic headwinds and millions of job losses,” KwaZulu-Natal Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube says.
The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition provided Synergy with a R50-million under the Black Industrialists Scheme, while the Industrial Development Corporation provided the balance of funding for the plant.
The Premier says the plant’s development is a vote of confidence in the Dube TradePort as a special economic zone.
