On Friday 2 December, 2016 the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital Trust will celebrate the completion of the hospital’s construction. The Trust will be celebrating this important milestone on the eve of the 3rd anniversary of Madiba’s passing together with donors, trustees, partners, officials and children.
The hospital is expected to officially open its doors to receive patients in mid-2017. The 200-bed facility will serve as a centre for paediatric care research and training, and will operate as a referral hospital. It has seven centres of excellence, namely:
- Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery
- Renal
- General Paediatric Surgery
- Crainiofacial
- Oncology and Haematology
- Pulmonology
- Neurosciences
The hospital will work through appropriate channels to receive referral patients – no child in need of care at the facility will be turned away.
