PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Mining has started at the Tarcoola gold mine, in South Australia, some two weeks after a decision to mine was taken.
ASX-listed WPG Resources said on Friday that, in anticipation of the approval of the Programme for Environment Protection and Rehabilitation, the payment of A$72 000 into an environmental benefit vegetation clearance offset account, the lodgment and registration of the mine closure rehabilitation bond of A$1.76-million and the decision to mine, all contracts had been awarded and the equipment necessary for work to start had been mobilised.
“In short order, we have been able to deploy staff and contractors to site, and reach this next important milestone,” said chairperson Bob Duffin.
“Our goal of transporting first ore to Challenger in mid-December for treatment is on track,” he added.
The project is expected to have a mine life of two years and a treatment period of three-and-a-half years.
