JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – South Africa’s mining production decreased by 4.4% year-on-year in May, driven by lower iron-ore and manganese ore production.
Iron-ore output fell by 26.4% year-on-year, contributing -4.9 percentage points to the overall decrease, while manganese ore production was down 25.4% year-on-year, contributing -1.8 percentage points to the overall decrease.
Platinum-group metals made a positive 3.9 percentage point contribution, with production 23.1% higher year-on-year, Statistics South Africa revealed on Thursday.
