Cold storage designer and manufacturer IDS has become the first customer of construction equipment supplier Goscor to use the HL275 D27 hydraulic mega scissor lift from Netherlands-based lift manufacturer Holland Lift.
Officially launched onto the South African market in March, in Cape Town, the HL272 D27 uses hydraulic cylinders attached to the vertical scissor legs to lift 1 t to its maximum height of 27.5 m.
Goscor Access Rental GM Nici Verster explains that the lift has a 6.15 m × 2.50 m deck measuring 8.25 m × 2.50 m when fully extended, and that the largest machine previously available in South Africa had a 5.55 m × 2.50 m deck measuring 7.55 m × 2.50 m when fully extended.
He highlights that the HL275 D27 has been brought to the South African market because of the increasing size of warehouses and buildings, with lifts increasing the effectiveness of construction processes and reducing the time required to lift larger loads to high heights.
The mega scissor lift also has a unique wheel base, which is 60 cm longer than what is currently available in scissor lifts in South Africa. Verster adds that the mega scissor lift unit first appeared on Goscor Access Rental’s radar when the company attended the construction trade fair Bauma, held in Munich, in Germany, in 2013.
“We knew the South African market could benefit from the application of this machine, especially when you consider major projects currently under way, such as the Kusile and Medupi power stations for State-owned electricity producer Eskom.”
He says applications for the mega scissor lifts also range from cladding, plastering and general electrical work to construction work.
The company supplies the mega scissor lift with outriggers, which allows for the machine to stand level on unstable and uneven ground; however, if needed, the lift can also be used without the outriggers, Verster explains.
“All of the technology that we source is some of the best in the world from a features, quality and durability point of view. Our technology is aimed at ensuring our customers benefit from the lowest total cost of ownership,” he elaborates.
Goscor Access Rental is part of the Goscor Group of Companies, which was established as a specialist rental company focusing on the renting of mobile, elevated work platforms.
“Our technology provides temporary aerial access for a range of applications . . . we never lose sight . . . that aerial access is a potentially hazardous business.”
Verster concludes that the company continues to strive to eliminate risk and maximise safety at every opportunity. “Strict international safety and quality standards form the basis of our service, maintenance and operator training programmes, enabling us to deliver the high-performance platforms and service levels needed by clients.”
