PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Diamond miner Lucapa Diamond Company has reported a 33% increase in production during the three months to March from its Lulo mine, in Angola.
Plant throughput at Lulo increased by 91% during the quarter, compared with the previous corresponding period, to 70 967 bulk cubic metres, despite the Angolan wet season.
The increase in plant throughput saw diamond recoveries increase to 4 098 ct during the three months under review, with the number of special stones, weighing more than 10.8 ct, increasing by 58% during the period, to 38.
Lucapa reported on Thursday that mining during the June quarter would continue at mining block 28, until ground conditions permitted safe access to mining blocks 8 and 6, as the wet season concluded.
