JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Kumba Iron Ore has raised the full-year production guidance for its Sishen mine, in the Northern Cape, to 28-million to 29-million tonnes, owing to the solid and consistent performance and ongoing improvements at the mine.
The mine produced 7.9-million tonnes of iron-ore in the second quarter of the year, ended June 30, a 38% year-on-year increase.
Production at the Kolomela mine rose 11% year-on-year to 3.5-million tonnes. It remains on track to produce 13-million to 14-million tonnes of iron-ore for the full year.
Meanwhile, Kumba said its export sales rose 8% year-on-year to 9.4-million tonnes, with full-year sales guidance increasing to 41-million to 43-million tonnes.
