JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – The Paracatu operation, in Brazil, has returned to normal production levels after a temporary weather-induced suspension, TSX-listed Kinross Gold Corporation said this week.
The mine partially suspended production on November 5, owing to insufficient rainfall but production resumed at Plant 1 and Plant 2 on November 20.
The Canada-based gold mining company expected the curtailment to impact production by between 16 000 oz and 34 000 oz during the fourth quarter.
“The impact range contemplates the possibility of another curtailment should the site receive less than one-third of the average rainfall for the month of December,” the company said in an update to shareholders.
The Santo Antonio tailings reprocessing project, which was scheduled to start in the fourth quarter, remained temporarily suspended until the water balance was fully restored.
However, the company expected to remain within its production guidance for the year of between 2.5-million and 2.6-million gold-equivalent ounces.
