JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – JSE-listed Keaton Energy’s Vanggatfontein openpit colliery near Delmas, in Mpumalanga, sold 2.24-million tonnes of washed 2-and 4-seam thermal coal to State-owned entity Eskom in the year ended march 31.
Sales were down 2% on the 2.28-million tonnes sold in the prior financial year.
Sales of 5-seam metallurgical coal reached 98 252 t, compared with 126 107 t the year before.
“The 2016 year ended with Vanggatfontein again underpinning the company with excellent results, which we have come to expect from this long-life quality asset, while the KwaZulu-Natal anthracite operations are in the process of being sold,” said Keaton CEO Mandi Glad.
