The transaction regarding the joint venture (JV) between Barloworld Handling South Africa’s local materials handling and agriculture business and German agricultural trading, building materials and energy specialist BayWa is set for completion by the end of the first quarter this year.
The transaction will be completed once approved by the Competition Commission of South Africa.
This follows the JV that was concluded between the two companies in Zambia in 2015. The new JV, BHBW Holdings, extends Barloworld Handling’s partnership with BayWa to Southern Africa.
In materials handling, BHBW will continue distributing the Hyster range of lift trucks and warehousing equipment, as well as the Utilev range of lift trucks, which is aimed at lower-use applications.
The complete range of equipment, from pallet jacks to reach stackers lifting up to 52 t, will be complemented by the integrated customer solutions established by Barloworld Handling, the exclusive Southern African dealer for Hyster since 1929. These solutions include consultancy and the outright selling of equipment, as well as long- and short-term rental, aftercare support and advanced fleet management.
Barloworld Handling’s materials handling equipment is supplied directly to customers and supported by branches nationally. Agricultural equipment is distributed through a network of Barloworld dealers across Southern Africa; this network will remain in place when BHBW begins trading.
