Canada-based electric motor and generator manufacturer IEC Holden has been operating in the global railway industry for 106 years, with over 60 years of experience in manufacturing traction motors for locomotives.
The company serves eight of the world's largest rail original-equipment manufacturers, including Bombardier, Alstom and GE Transportation.
Further, with four full-service ISO-certified manufacturing facilities located in the US, Canada, Mexico and South Africa, IEC Holden can provide customers with high-quality, cost-effective manufacturing services in the markets where customers need it most.
IEC Holden acknowledges that quality cannot be taken for granted, which is why quality has become part of the culture of the organisation.
“We manufacture electrical rotating equipment with a strong focus on the mechanical and electrical assembly of motors and generators. We also offer full product introduction solutions from design-for-manufacture, prototyping, preproduction, and pilots that run through to series production.
“Throughout this process, our team leverages our proven programme management methodology to reduce costs, raise quality and ensure on-time delivery,” says the company.
IEC Holden has invested over R250-million over the last 18 months to establish its South African manufacturing operation and has also invested heavily in local supplier and skills development.
Locally located in Isando, Gauteng, the company is a Level 3 black economic-empowered entity with ISO 9001 and ISO 3834 accreditations. Its facility is over 7 000 m2 and houses 105 employees, which is expected to grow to more than 300 in the next 12 months.
The company believes it has the potential to grow its manufacturing scope to include motors and generators for the industrial mining and wind energy sectors and expects to develop its Isando operation into a regional and potentially global exporter of advanced manufactured electric motors and generators.
