Lighting and surge protection solutions provider, DEHN Africa recently hosted its first CPD seminar in Nairobi, Kenya, with the assistance of the Institute of Engineers of Kenya (IEK). DEHN Africa frequently holds seminars, training and workshops as part of its education institution, DEHNacademy. These education initiatives are designed to help bring the industry well-founded knowledge and skills in the field of safety equipment, lighting and surge protection.
This particular course saw DEHN Africa electrical engineer, Hano Oelofse, take delegates through the IEC 62305 lightning protection standard (part one through to part four). “In a country like Kenya, which the equator passes through making it highly susceptible to lightning activity, it is essential that its engineers be equipped to face the constant challenges concerning direct lightning and the effects of indirect lightning,” explains Gerrit Meyer, business development manager at DEHN Africa.
“DEHN Africa was fortunate enough to collaborate not only with the IEK, but also two of the region’s most prominent institutions, Kenyatta University and University of Nairobi, for this seminar,” Meyer comments. “This association was critical to the success of this course, which was very well received in the region.”
Delegates attending the seminar, who represented organisations including Bosch East Africa; Petrotrack Engineering Services; Power Engineering International and Nex Power, expressed how much knowledge they had gained, particularly in terms of the risk assessment category of the training, and how it would assist them in their day-to-day operations, be it with inspections, consultations or lightning protection solutions (LPS) designs.
