PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Diversified major BHP has reported a fatality at its Goonyella Riverside coal mine, in Queensland.
The company said on Tuesday that a full investigation was under way, with project partners BHP and Mitsubishi continuing to work closely with the relevant authorities.
The Queensland government noted that the mine inspectors had been at the mine since the weekend, undertaking an investigation into the cause and nature of the incident.
BHP said that support services were in place for the family of the mineworker, as well as friends and the contractors involved at its Goonyella Riverside mine.
