JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Diversified mining major BHP Billiton on Wednesday informed dual-listed Jubilee Platinum that a tailings supply agreement between the two companies, signed in 2005, has been terminated.
The agreement relates to BHP’s Leinster nickel operations, in Western Australia, and Jubilee subsidiary Braemore Nickel, which has subsequently informed BHP that it has rejected the termination notice.
Braemore, which has been continuing with the internal review of its Braemore nickel tailings project, with the aim of improving the viability of the project as part of an economic evaluation, stated that no legal basis existed for the termination.
The nickel tailings project does not form part of Jubilee’s earnings nor does it have any influence on the execution of Jubilee’s platinum and chrome projects.
Jubilee will continue to pursue further tailings opportunities to add to its existing platinum and chrome project.
