- Sulfuric acid catalyst O4‑115 Quattro is built to boost performance, reduce emissions, and enhance plant capacity.
- The unique shape leads to 30% greater catalytic surface area
- Proven performance improvement for sulfuric acid producers
The new, cesium-based catalyst is unique due to its geometrical shape – a combination of four strands – leading to a 30% greater catalytic surface area compared to conventional sulfuric acid catalysts.
For sulfuric acid producers, this translates into higher conversion in the catalyst bed, exceptionally low SO2 emissions, energy savings and improved performance in plants with limited catalyst volumes. Additionally, the O4-115 Quattro features enhanced physical and mechanical properties. Due to its improved catalyst hardness, which is reflected in a lower sieving loss, this new catalyst offers long-term stability and cost-efficient operation.
Because of its excellent low temperature activity, catalyst O4-115 may be installed as an ignition layer or full bed application. It is used in both chemical and process catalysts. Download the data sheet.
Why BASF?
BASF is one of the leading manufacturers of sulfuric acid catalysts worldwide, leveraging its own sulfuric acid production expertise. The company operates four sulfuric acid plants at its headquarters in Ludwigshafen, in Germany, where the latest catalyst technologies are used.
For the new development of catalysts, in-house sulfuric acid production is a huge advantage because we can gain important insights on the performance and long-term stability of the catalysts, and our customers can directly benefit from these findings. In addition, we are continuously investing in sulfuric acid catalyst research to help our customers be even more successful.
When customers work with BASF, they benefit from our decades of experience in:
- Conversion evaluation
- Performance optimisation
- Technical assistance
- Customer sample analysis
- On-site plant support
- Spent catalyst disposal assistance
- Process performance evaluation
We Never Stop Inventing
In 1913, the first patent on the vanadium-based catalyst was granted to BASF. Invented by BASF, the vanadium-based catalyst is still the chemical foundation of all sulfuric acid catalysts on the market. Learn more:
