The Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA) has awarded engineering consultancy Aurecon a 5-Star Green Star SA Office v1 Design rating for its second office block at Century City.
The 3 300 m2 building was adjacent to Aurecon’s original 7 000 m2 premises, the first office building in South Africa to receive the same rating.
Aurecon was responsible for the design of the project’s engineering services, as well as the Green Star Rating application, with assistance from Ludwig Design Consulting.
Developed by the Rabie Property Group for listed property development and investment group Ingenuity Property Investments, Aurecon’s second office block brought the number of Green Star-rated buildings at Century City to ten, and the number of 5-Star Green Star-rated buildings to six.
The other 5-Star buildings included Bridge Park East and West, also developed by Rabie Property Group, and No 17 Park Lane, which was home to the Auditor-General of South Africa and was developed by Asset Matrix. The sixth 5-Star-rated building belonged to Chevron.
GBCSA noted that a number of other applications for Green Star ratings were still pending, including an application for the R1-billion Century City Urban Square development, which included a conference centre, a 125-room hotel, offices, apartments and restaurants in five buildings that looked out onto a public square.
