JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Lower dollar platinum-group metals prices have contributed to lower headline and basic earnings for Anglo American Platinum (Amplats) for the six months ending on June 30.
The platinum miner on Tuesday said its headline earnings and headline earnings per share (HEPS) for the six months under review were likely to be R494-million, or 189c a share, lower than the headline earnings of R2.5-billion and HEPS of 946c reported for the six months to June 2015.
Basic earnings and basic earnings per share (EPS) would also be at least R489-million, or 187c a share, lower than the basic earnings of R2.4-billion and EPS of 936c reported in the prior comparable period.
The decreases in HEPS and EPS were primarily the result of a stock take adjustment in the previous period which resulted in an after tax gain of R1.6-billion, or 599c a share, as well as owing to the decrease in dollar metal prices which were partially offset by a weaker rand.
The company would release its interim results on July 25.
