NCPC-SA to launch Peer Recognition Association for green economy practitioners at upcoming conference

NCPC-SA to launch Peer Recognition Association for green economy practitioners at upcoming conference

The National Cleaner Production South Africa (NCPC-SA) will facilitate and participate in the process of developing a Peer Recognition mechanism for resource efficient and cleaner production (RECP) and other green economy professionals in South Africa. The Peer Review Association will be launched at the NCPC-SA’s Industrial Efficiency Conference on Wednesday, 11 September 2019 at the CSIR ICC in Pretoria.

The NCPC-SA is inviting all professionals interested in potentially joining, or participating in the running of such a network to attend the launch and future meetings to define, design and drive the network.

Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) is defined as a systematic and integrated approach to managing energy, water, materials and other resource use, in order to minimise waste and GHG emissions and increase profitability of production (Source: UNIDO).

Professionals who would be relevant to and benefit from this network would therefore include practitioners in a wide range of disciplines focused on sustainability in business, including: energy efficiency and sustainable energy (including renewables); water efficiency and stewardship; waste minimisation and management; green chemistry and product design; process and lifecycle management; sustainability planning and reporting; and selected areas of environmental management.

The aim of the RECP Association is to become the Professional Body for RECP practitioners by creating the capacity to, amongst others, promote best practice of scientists and engineers who are practicing across multiple disciplines; administer the voluntary registration of RECP practitioners and determine categorisation; and develop standards of practice and codes of conduct for RECP professionals.

The NCPC-SA will provide administrative support and will host the launch and initial meetings in this role. A more detailed concept document is available, if you wish to receive a copy, please email ncpc@csir.co.za or ncpcGreenSkills@csir.co.za.

To RSVP to attend the launch, simply register for the NCPC-SA conference here https://ncpc-saconference.co.za/ and select the “Building the right skills” topic in Session 3, the morning of 11 September.
